Introduction

What is a process control workstation?

A process control workstation is an HMI terminal that operators wheel onto the plant floor. SCADA and DCS sessions stay live at the point of work, so nobody walks back to the control room to check a trend or acknowledge an alarm. The same chassis runs as a SCADA workstation or a DCS workstation across non-hazardous process areas.

The hardware is stainless steel, ingress protection rated, with hot-swap batteries. This is a different product from the cleanroom version: it is built for plants, not aseptic suites. Ruggedness and shop-floor durability matter more here than particle counts.

The problem

Three ways fixed HMI terminals hold back your plant

SCADA data sits in the control room. Work happens on the plant floor.

Every walk back to a fixed terminal is time away from the process. Operators lose 20–30 minutes per shift to the back-and-forth, and slow response to alarms means wasted product.

Fixed terminals can't go everywhere you need them.

Retrofitting fixed terminals into wet, dusty, or remote process areas is expensive and often impractical. And in food or water plants, trailing cables are a contamination and trip risk that never goes away.

Process events become losses when operators can't react in time.

By the time an operator reaches a terminal and drills into a trend, the deviation is already downstream. In continuous processes, that's lost yield, wasted energy, and missed schedule.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which SCADA and DCS platforms does it support?

Anything your control system exposes through a browser or thin client will run on the workstation. Current deployments include AVEVA Wonderware, Siemens WinCC, Rockwell FactoryTalk View, Ignition, Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell Experion, and Yokogawa CENTUM VP. At the data layer, OPC-UA and MQTT are supported. Kinetic-ID does not host or process your process data; it stays inside your network.

What's the enclosure rating for wet or wash-down environments?

The standard chassis is ingress protection rated for dust and water spray, which covers most water treatment, food and beverage, and chemical process work. If your site needs a higher rating or a specific wash-down protocol, say so in the consultation and we'll confirm what's achievable.

How does the battery hot-swap work?

The cart uses two 500 Wh Li-ion battery packs. Battery exchange takes approximately 5 minutes and requires removing access screws from the underside of the cart. Plan exchanges for shift changes or natural workflow breaks rather than mid-task — the brief operational pause is best treated as a scheduled handover rather than an interruption.

What's the lead time for a standard configuration?

Standard configurations ship in 6–8 weeks from order confirmation. Custom configurations (specific peripheral bundles, branded fascia, non-standard screen sizes) add 2–4 weeks. Every unit ships with CE/UKCA conformity documentation.

Can we pilot a single unit before scaling?

Yes. Get an ID-Flow unit on site to evaluate against your operational and validation requirements. Typical pilots run around 30 days, though we’ll work with your team on the right timeline. Site survey, setup support and IQ/OQ documentation are included.

Is it suitable for chemical or hydrocarbon process environments?

Yes — for non-hazardous chemical process areas. The 304L stainless chassis is compatible with standard solvent and caustic cleaning protocols. Material traceability documentation is provided on request. The workstation is not intended for hazardous (ATEX-classified) zones.
